How to Use

Foam board or Foam core board is a strong and lightweight material that is easily cut with a sharp craft knife or picture framing mat cutter. One problem people often encounter when cutting foamboard is what we like to call the “snow-plough effect”. When your knife is blunt or used at the wrong angle you can cause the internal foam layer of the board to bunch up causing an unsightly edge and making it increasingly difficult to cut.

The sharp part of any trimming knife is the flat surface rather than the tip so smooth cutting is achieved when you present more of that surface to the board. Have a shallow angle rather than a steep one.

If you want to cut tight curves use a pointy scalpel or a tool specifically designed to cut foamboards.

We have several videos explaining the techniques involved with cutting foamboards and how to use them to mount pictures etc. It is best to start by watching the video below and then if you require further information please watch the other videos or send us and email with your request.
